Hader Art – It’s Elementary

The John Wm. And Betty Long Unruh Foundation and the Bessie Minor Foundation made funds available for us to take a Hader art lesson into each elementary school in Douglas County. Berta and Elmer are inspiring children’s creativity once again. Third and/or fourth graders throughout the county are being introduced to the Haders’ whimsical Oregon map from 1932, being taught some basic colored pencil techniques, and then guided through the experience of drawing their own whimsical map of Oregon. The youngsters’ responses have been heart-warming and overwhelmingly positive. Thank you volunteers for helping to make this happen! We hope to expand the program beyond the county borders in the future.
